THE LIGHTBULB

Back in November 2013 when the light bulb moment happened and the idea of An Hour for Others was born, something else dawned on me. It was the very same moment I realised no one, or nothing was coming to save me and give me the world I wanted to live in on a plate. My endless hours complaining about how wrong the world and life was on social media, in conversation with friends, and on the factory floor, wasn't doing anything positive what so ever to my life or the world around me. In fact all that complaining was having the opposite effect, it was actually fanning the flames of negativity that causes so much harm in our communities.

My dream was to live in a world where unity, respect, compassion, honesty and kindness were values that every single person held dear. In this world corruption, violence, hatred and greed did not exist and people lived in a safe and happy environment. Maybe wishful thinking but why not? What is stopping this world from manifesting? I used to be one of them people who would say - "You'll never change that", "That's just how it is", but was that actually true?

Why should we accept anything less than a world that the children of the future will thank us for creating?  Why can't a better world be born from grassroots? No one on this planet is above or below anybody else and it is long past the time we realised this and used our own individual power to bring about a better way.   The answer is in our own personal actions, words, habits and behaviours, no one is going to come along and wave a magic wand to make it all better for us. The only thing each one of us can do is take responsibility and accountability for ourselves!

A BETTER WORLD

A better world costs absolutely nothing and it's inside each one of us ready to express itself.  Individually, once we give out respect, compassion, kindness and honesty we've already changed the world.  We have to learn to stop looking outside of ourselves for the answers, when we unite as one and support and respect each other, choose honesty over deceit and compassion over bitterness we are well on the way to a bright future.  In the word community is the word unity and this is something we should all strive for, it won't happen over night but at least we will have taken a giant step forward.   Spend a bit of time alone and have a real think about what you are putting into this world, are you complaining about everything but not actually doing anything other than that?  Are you trawling through social media posts looking for someone to attack and point the finger at?  If you are, then you are part of the problem and not the solution. Be the change this world needs now, today - Be the change the children of tomorrow will thank you for.
