'THE HARDEST CHALLENGE BOTH PHYSICALLY AND MENTALLY'

Danny's words as he finished his brutal 12 hr walk from Manchester to Liverpool on one of the hottest days of the year. Danny set off at 7am in the morning on Thursday 11th August 2022 and finished at our new hub on West Derby Rd at just before 7pm. The emotion and sheer exhaustion on Danny's face as he was cheered home by his family and AHFO team was clear to see.

 DANNY FINISHING HIS 30 MILES.

Around 2 months ago Danny contacted the team to say he really wanted to raise funds for AHFO as he loved the work we do helping our communities. Danny was by no means a seasoned walker and only in the last few years has he started to enjoy getting out and putting the miles in to help his physical and mental health and well being.  A really nice down to earth and humble man Danny spent many hours walking the streets picking litter as he mixed walking with positive community action!

After contacting the team he then set up a page on instagram to drum up support for his 30 mile Manchester to Liverpool challenge, he was hit with a cruel jibe from a cowardly anonymous account who ridiculed him saying he wouldn't make it past Queens Drive and they'd throw a fiver in for the chippy for him. Really heroic of them saying that to a lad trying to do something positive to help his community. At the finish line Danny spoke of how that comment had really hit him and along the walk played a little on his mind. Well to that keyboard warrior, he smashed it and achieved more in one day of walking than they will have done in an entire lifetime.

At the finish line Danny sat talking to the team and his family about how hard the walk had been in the intense heat and there were many points along the way where he felt so down, lonely and absolutely exhausted.  His feet were blistered all over and he looked in real pain.  Danny was rightly over the moon with completing the brutal walk and every single one of us and his family were so proud and thankful that he completed it and also chose AHFO to support. We asked Danny how he managed to get through the walk, he said 'I listened to Jamie Webster most of the way'!  Quite fitting that our old mate Jamie kept Danny going through his journey.

Danny, you are a special man and we hope you become a part of the growing AHFO community.  THANK YOU
